Across our healthcare system EMHS members strive to achieve excellence so that our Maine communities benefit from the very best healthcare practices and care available. The more than 8,000 employees of EMHS consult with one another, sharing ideas, experience, and expertise, so the care we deliver is better and more efficient. It is this collaboration that makes us stronger by providing seamless care for those patients who access our multiple organizations across the system. Our awards and recognitions are like benchmarks and milestones. EMHS CEO is Named Business Leader of the Year!

EMHS president and CEO Michelle Hood, FACHE has been named the Large Company Business Leader of the Year by MaineBiz Magazine. In bestowing this honor upon Michelle, MaineBiz editors cited her collaboration, vision, and leadership.

EMHS Receives National Recognition for Quality, Safety, and Transparency

The National Business Group on Health and the VHA Foundation awarded EMHS with its National Health System Patient Safety Leadership Award for creating a system-wide culture of safety.

EMHS is honored to be both a Best Place to Work in Maine and a Best Place to Work in Healthcare.

Modern Healthcare, a national healthcare publication, in 2009 announced that EMHS was named one of 100 companies nationally as a Best Place to Work in Healthcare.This is the second year the healthcare system has earned this distinction. Earlier this year, EMHS participated in a two-part assessment process, administered by Best Companies Group, a workplace excellence consulting firm, where both employees and employers fill out separate surveys regarding the company. After the results were tallied, the surveys were combined and analyzed to determine the company’s strengths and opportunities. Best Companies Group looks to find and recognize companies that have established and consistently fostered outstanding workplace environments.

In 2008, Eastern Maine Medical Center (EMMC) joined only 25 other hospitals in the United States since 1994 that have received top honors for healthcare information technology with the Nicholas E. Davies Organizational Award of Excellence, sponsored by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS). This prestigious award is given to select hospitals in the country for effectively using information technology to improve the safety and quality of patient care. In receiving this award, EMMC joins an elite group of top hospitals and health systems nationwide who met the stringent criteria laid out by HIMSS. Previous winners include such outstanding organizations as Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Ohio State University Health System.

EMHS e-Business Recognized at the Twelfth Annual Healthcare Internet Conference

The eHealthcare Leadership Awards program exclusively recognizes the very best websites of healthcare providers, health plans, healthcare associations, online health companies, pharmaceutical and medical equipment firms, suppliers, other healthcare organizations, and business improvement initiatives. The awards highlight the Internet's role in achieving an organization's business objectives and recognize the hard work that has gone into creating outstanding health websites. In 2008, more than 1,100 entries were received from a wide range of healthcare organizations.

EMHS CIO Receives MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Award for Innovation Leadership

Catherine J. Bruno, vice president and chief information officer (CIO) of EMHS (Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems), was selected as one of two winners of the MIT Sloan CIO Symposium Award for Innovation Leadership. The award honors chief information officers who lead their organizations to pursue the innovative use of Information Technology (IT) and business processes to deliver business value.
