Suzanne Spruce, APR

Chief Communications Officer

Function in the System
As the chief communications officer for EMHS, Suzanne R. Spruce, APR is responsible for the system’s strategic communication and public relations, as well as brand and reputation management. Suzanne also directs crisis and disaster communication when the need arises. She works closely with EMHS member organizations on integrated strategic marketing, communications, and brand. She is also responsible for web, social media, and digital marketing.

The Road to Here
Suzanne is a veteran of more than 20 years in broadcast news - working as a reporter, anchor, news director, and editor. She is Accredited in Public Relations (APR), a graduate of University of Maine, the Daniel Hanley Center for Health Leadership Development, the Bangor Region Leadership Institute, and The Advisory Board’s Health Academy. Suzanne serves on the board of the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce.

Guiding Principle
Suzanne says she keeps the following words from this Irish blessing close at hand and near to heart: May you have the hindsight to know where you've been, the foresight to know where you're going, and the insight to know when you're going too far.

Proudest Accomplishments
Professionally, there are too many moments to distill down to a few words, but certainly the privilege of working for a health delivery system that is committed to improving the health and well-being of the people of Maine has to top the list. Personally, Suzanne is most proud of raising two wonderful children who are now, “smart and productive adults.”

What she’s trying to do
Suzanne is dedicated to sharing the positive stories within EMHS, “There are so many great things that happen across our system every day and I want the people of Maine and beyond to know that.” Suzanne is well-known for wanting communication plans to guide the many projects and activities of EMHS, so the right audience hears the right message at the right time.  She is also committed to transparency in communication, and is often heard saying, “tell it first and tell it all.”
