Lisa Harvey-McPherson, RN, MBA, MPPM

Vice President, Government Relations; EMHS


Function

As the EMHS vice president for Government Relations, Lisa represents EMHS member organizations in Augusta and Washington, DC.  Her expertise in health care policy assists legislators, members of Congress, and other policy makers to understand the impact that legislative and congressional decisions have on our member organizations and the patients we serve. As a nurse, Lisa aligns the complex environment of laws and policy with the EMHS vision to ensure that our care and services improve the health of Maine’s population, improve the  patient experience of care with high quality outcomes and reduce the overall cost of care for the citizens we serve.
 

Road to here

Born and raised in Maine, Lisa took her first job in healthcare in high school as a unit secretary at Augusta General (now Maine General). While working toward her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing at the University of Southern Maine, she spent her summers working as a nurses aide in a nursing home. After receiving her BS in Nursing, Lisa obtained a Master of Business Administration from Thomas College and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Management from the University of Southern Maine Muskie Institute. She credits her best education to living in Maine and an early professional experience of developing a comprehensive network of community healthcare that provided services to a rural area of Maine where many of the citizens were living in poverty.

Guiding Principle

Lisa wants to ensure that Maine’s citizens receives the highest quality of care possible. Her compassion for  patient care, as well as for those providing the services, is reflected in more than 30 years of nursing experience.

Proudest Accomplishments

Lisa has served in numerous leadership roles including board president of the Home Care and Hospice Alliance of Maine, board president of the Maine Hospice Council, Board Member of the National Association of Home Care and Hospice, and is also a member American Hospital Association Government Relations Officers Network. She has received state and national recognition for her work including the American Organization of Nurse Executives National Policy and Advocacy Award, the Maine Home Care and Hospice Advocate of the Year award and the OMNE-Nursing Leaders of Maine Nursing Leadership Award.

Lisa is proud that her level of educational and professional success has all been achieved while staying in Maine. Her journey has allowed her to be a strong leader for advocacy and policy representing both healthcare and the profession of nursing in Maine and nationally.

What she’s trying to do

Lisa will serve the EMHS member organizations with her energy and passion for advocacy and health policy. It is important to her that the quality of care provided by EMHS member organizations is understood by policy makers as a state and national model of care supporting improved health status for the citizens of Maine.
