Three Rural EMHS Hospitals Recognized for Quality
Brewer, Maine – (December 3, 2015) – Three EMHS hospitals have been named as Top Rural Hospitals by the Leapfrog Group. Blue Hill Memorial Hospital, Inland Hospital in Waterville, and Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) in Pittsfield are among six hospitals in Maine honored with the quality award.
Top rural hospitals must meet LeapFrog’s standards for preventing medication errors as well as achieve a value score of 77 or better out of 100 from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey. The survey measures quality through high efficiency scores as well as appropriate use of resources. The methodology for evaluating hospitals is updated annually. Blue Hill Memorial Hospital was recognized for this award in 2014 and 2013. Both Inland and SVH were recognized for this award in 2014, 2013, and 2010.
“This is great news for patients in these communities because this recognition shows our passion to provide a safe environment and exceptional care experience,” said Iyad Sabbagh, MD, EMHS chief quality officer and the assistant chief medical officer. “It’s good news when one hospital is recognized for its commitment to quality, but it’s great news when you have multiple rural hospitals, in coordinated partnership, dedicated to ensuring quality care is consistent across facilities. This is the value our system brings to Maine when we say, together we’re stronger.”
